Why not tri?

Tim_don_2This Sunday, pro and amateur triathletes from around the world head to the heartland to compete in the 2007 Hy-Vee World Cup Triathlon in Des Moines, Iowa. Garmin’s behind Tim Don, 2006 ITU Triathlon World Champion, who trains with the Garmin Forerunner 305 and Edge 305 and uses our online analysis program, MotionBased. Tim’s making the trip across the big pond (he trains primarily in the U.K. and South Africa) in hopes of snagging this title and a cool $700,000 purse. Want to see the details of Tim’s training? Click here for his MB digest. We’re told Tim was recently doing endurance training indoors in a lab to simulate high humidity conditions in prep for this weekend’s event. So that training won’t be in MB, but he’ll be back to the outdoor training soon.

More tri news

Have you heard about the Forerunner 305 Multisport? This version comes with a quick-release wrist strap, bike mount, speed/cadence sensor and a free subscription to MotionBased. Everything you need to use your Forerunner 305 for running and cycling workouts so you can take your training to the next level. See it in action here, along with an overview of the Forerunner series.

Never tri’d? I have the perfect triathlon to recommend for first-timers. One caveat: no boys allowed. It’s the second annual Kansas City Women’s Tri, presented by Garmin. Event takes place at Smithville Lake north of Kansas City on Saturday, August 11. It’s a sprint course, USAT-sanctioned, and race director Clay Myers-Bowman, Blue Hills Adventures, will see to it that it’s an all-around great race for first-timers and experienced female triathletes alike. Last weekend, we hosted an all-day workshop here at Garmin for women who’d already registered for this race or who wanted to know a little more about the sport. Presenters covered everything from bike fit and selection to tri attire, skin care, nutrition and training plans. I even shared some tips on how to balance training with family, work and life. My best tip? Get a partner that can take your training to the next level — Forerunner 305.

Register soon for the KC Women’s Tri. The event sold out last year and though the field was expanded, we expect another sell-out this year.
