Tour Weekly Recap: Ride Argyle grinds again for the second week in France
Week 2 for the Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling Team has been as eventful as the first at The Tour de France. Despite the difficult climbs on the Pyrenees, the team scored two second place finishes for Dan Martin.
For anyone who missed out on all the action this past week, here is a quick recap of how our riders competed. If you want to catch up from the beginning of the Tour, you can see the recap from Stages 1-3 and Stages 4-7 here. You can also visit slipstreamsports.com for more coverage!
Stage 8 – Saturday, July 11
The weekend started off well for Cannondale-Garmin as Martin chased the other competitors and crossed the line in second place, five seconds behind the stage winner. The uphill finish on the eighth stage suited the Irishman.
“I really had the legs today, but I couldn’t get out,” Martin stated. “The team rode so well today. I’m so thankful to them.”
Stage 9 – Sunday, July 12
Before the rest day, Cannondale-Garmin slotted into 12th place on the Tour de France stage nine team time trial. The hilly 28-kilometer route tested teams with an uneven gradients, crosswinds and an uphill finish. Andrew Talansky led Cannondale-Garmin across the line stopping the clock at 33:44.
Stage 10 – Tuesday, July 14
Stage 10 followed the first rest day of the Tour and marked the race’s first venture into the Pyrenees. After featuring flat roads, classic-like courses and time trials, Tuesday’s race was a shock to the system.
Stage 11– Wednesday, July 15
Dan Martin launched a bold attack to finish in second place on stage 11. The Irishman earned the combativity prize for his efforts. It was Martin’s second stage podium of the Tour.
“I am really proud of how I rode and it’s just a shame I lacked a bit of strength on the climbs,” Martin said. “To get second again after a bad day yesterday shows the team is still in the race.”
Stage 12– Thursday, July 16
It was another punishing day in the Pyrenees – the last of the three-day stint in the high mountains. A large breakaway dominated the early action and produced the stage winner. Having missed out on the action up the road, Cannondale-Garmin protected Talansky in the build-up to the Plateau de Beille summit and his 21st place finish.
Stage 13 – Friday, July 17
In the final race before the weekend, Ride Argyle had a strong effort from Talansky and Nathan Haas. Both riders fought hard throughout the stage, but it was Talansky who finished the highest at 31st place.
