The positive side of the season ending early though means that I am able to spend just a little bit more time at home – and having spent most of my time away over the years, it is nice to settle in a bit and feel like a local again! The other major positive has been that I returned in time for the whale migration season. They are on their way back south, new babies in tow and the numbers thisAustralia Pip year have been incredible. As I live right on the coast and am out running along the beaches or headland, it has been amazing to watch the show put on every day. Some days I have seen as many as 13 on one single run  – all in the space of 30 or 40 minutes and without even stopping to try and find them!! Other days the tricks and displays that have gone on have stopped me mid-stride – simply demanding that you stop and watch these most majestic animals. These types of runs are best enjoyed without a schedule – which means some sporadic data on the Forerunner! Now that the whale watching season is coming close to an end though, its time for less stopping on the runs and the Forerunner can keep me honest again…and I'm pretty sure I did not need mapping to figure out which way to go here (see photo to right)."

Josh Cox 610Also this past weekend was the Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon, where Garmin runners Deena Kaster and Josh Cox continued to tune up for the January marathon trials and a chance to compete and represent the USA in London 2012. Using her Forerunner 210, Deena clocked a time of 01:11:48. An average pace of 5:29 per mile!! This blazing time earned her first place and lets her know she is right on track for the trials. Josh, who has been using many of these Rock ‘n’ Roll series races as training runs, finished in 5th place with a time of 01:06:05. I wish I could do my training runs at 5:03 minutes per mile!!!

We look forward to watching Deena and Josh drop time as January approaches and wish them both the best of luck.
