Peg’s Posts: Ready or not, here we roll

Biking for BBQ 002-smBiking for BBQ 003-sm Too bad the number crunching power of my Edge can’t compensate for any lack of power my legs may have on my first century ride. Worse yet, how they’ll feel when facing 80 some miles the following day. But, to quote the coach of Runner’s World columnist Ed Eyestone, “The hay is in the barn. Now we just gotta make sure it’s stacked right.” Thought my barn was in reasonable order until a particularly windy ride this week that seemed to scatter about any hay previously stacked. And it wasn’t just the wind’s fault. I blame my riding partners: Freight Train McLain and Owen, who has calf muscles that could slice bread. This headwind ride from somewhere down south was a far cry last Friday’s lunch time ride which involved a stopover for barbecue. That day, I rode with Freight Train and Ryan, in cheers of Ryan’s employment anniversary at Garmin. Lunch was superb and our fear of a porkly-induced sluggishness was put to rest when our average speed on return was a bit faster than our first leg. Freight Train reminded me we had a tailwind on the way back. I’m going with the secret sauce as a secret weapon. Pretty sure that’s what we’ll be feasting on tomorrow night, so I’m hoping it has enough power to get us through Sunday’s ride home.
