Interbike 2010 002
Interbike 2010 009 It's been a busy week here at the Interbike trade show in Las Vegas, so much so that I only have a few free minutes to check in here. From the time I arrived at the Garmin booth, I've been immersed in the excitement surrounding Tuesday's news that Garmin had acquired MetriGear and will be bringing the Vector pedal-based power meter to market. This created a nice 1-2 punch for us as we had already announced the new touchscreen Edge 800 bike GPS and would be showing it off for the first time in the U.S.

In nonstop meetings with media every half-hour, I enjoyed showcasing our big news with Clark Foy, CEO of MetriGear and now a fellow Garmin employee. And even the most seasoned journalists couldn't help but get a little giddy about the thought of what our companies' collaborative efforts could bring to the cycling industry. When I get back next week, I'll do a quick roundup of everyone's reactions, but they started hitting the public within hours of our conversations. But for now, you can check out what the always thorough Ray Maker had to say at his tech/fitness blog DC Rainmaker and watch the video of Bicycling Magazine's Joe Lindsey chatting with me about the new Edge 800.
