Epic Bike demo days, 4.6.11 005-sm Epic Bike demo days, 4.6.11 001-sm Edges Can we all agree winter’s hung way past its welcome? Pretty sure that’s unanimous. So when Wednesday turned up sunny and 70s, it was prime time for Epic Bike and Sport’s demo days event held at Smithville Lake. Cyclists were invited to come out and take a spin on the latest road and mountain bike models and join one of the group rides on the bike course for the WIN for KC Women’s Triathlon. Women on all sorts of bikes were dusting off their wheels, eager for their first ride of the season. As the official training partner for this popular all-women’s tri, Garmin was there with a colorful collection of Edge bike computers for trial. While some riders liked the sleekness of the Edge 500 models, others were intrigued by the ability to see mapping right on the device on models like the Edge 705. The folks from Epic were coveting my touchscreen Edge 800 with maps, metrics and more. With a little downtime between group rides, I joined a couple of great riders from Epic, Dawn and Mandy, to ride a little more and explore the lake paths. See our ride in Garmin Connect. I later learned from a local that Smithville Lake has 30+ miles of trails, including paved and mountain bike trails.

Several women rode in pairs or small packs, adjusting their speed to stick with a friend. One of the unique qualities of the WIN for KC Women’s Triathlon is that the event appeals to all levels of athletes, from first-timers to experienced triathletes. In the months leading up to the July 30 race, participants can take part in fitness workshops, group training sessions and first-timer forums. For all those participating in this year’s race, good luck in your training, and we hope to see you at one of the upcoming training rides or other sessions.
