Jake’s Journal: Chicago runners reflect on why every mile matters

Morning
Komen GroupAt Garmin, we love hearing from our customers – why they enjoy their
favorite activities and how our products can help. As host of Wednesday’s packet
pickup for the 2012 Chicagoland Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K and
10K events, we enjoyed chatting with many of the participants at our
store on Michigan Avenue
. Whether training for their first 5K or yet
another marathon or triathlon, each had a great story to tell. From the woman who just started running a couple months ago after her daughter was born to the gentleman who is coming off of an Ironman, people lit up as they shared their inspirations and goals. And with that energy fresh in our minds, it was easy to wake up at 4:30 the next morning to promote this weekend’s events on NBC 5 Chicago. Even if it meant hauling an 8-foot-long Forerunner 10 down Michigan Avenue amid some startled looks from passersby!

FannieWe were willing to cut our sleep short to get the word out about the promotion that the Garmin store (at 663 N. Michigan Ave.) is doing the next few weeks: For every Forerunner purchased at Garmin Chicago, 10 percent of the proceeds go directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

We’re inspired to help find a cure, and stories like these reminded us why we enjoy being so immersed in the running community.

This video shares just a couple perspectives from folks who stopped by the store, and you can find more testimonials at the Garmin blog or our Facebook page.

Good luck to everyone participating this weekend, and to everyone training for or helping out at various events in your area!
