Garmin engineer achieves an “ultra” goal
We love hearing from customers who set far-out fitness goals and nail it with the
help of a Garmin GPS device tracking every mile and minute. Recently, a Garmin engineer who worked on the new Forerunner 10 shared his ultra feat. And note: while he does run with multiple watches to collect data for testing purposes, he’s certainly not using them to bank extra miles!
I made “every mile matter” by running 100 miles in 6 days with the Forerunner 10. I had decided in May of this year that I wanted to reach for this goal as a
bucket list item to check off, so I set up a 16-week training plan starting in
late May and ending last week. The training was actually going much better than
expected until the end of the 13th week when during my last run of
the week, I had some foot pain that wouldn’t go away so I ended up walking home.
I took it easy for the next few days and tried doing some cycling to keep the
fitness up but let my foot rest. Thankfully I was able to recover fairly
quickly and got back on my original plan of reaching 100 miles by this week,
though I did miss out on some 90- and 95-mile weeks from my original plan. Thanks
to my Garmin coworkers for all the encouragement and support along the way. My
plan now is to maintain around a 60-mile week, but start working in some speed
work. Hopefully that will translate to a marathon PR sometime this winter or
next spring, though I don’t have one picked out yet. My wife is due in October
with our third child so I will have to pass on running the KC Marathon this
year.
What’s on your fitness bucket list? Whether it’s running your first 5k race or just going
a little farther or faster, here’s your chance to win a new Forerunner 10 to
keep you on track. Visit the Another Mother Runner blog before Sept. 26 and respond
to this question for your chance to win a Forerunner 10: what is your dream pace and mileage?
