From start to finish, Garmin ready to roll with Bike MS
Tomorrow morning, thousands of cyclists will be at Garmin headquarters queuing up for
the start of Bike MS KC, an event that raises more than $1 million to help find a cure
for Multiple Sclerosis. Garmin is again proud to be the host and a corporate sponsor of this event, and we can’t wait to cheer on the participants as they roll out on Day 1 and return home on Day 2. And while we’ll absolutely root for everyone, we may be tempted to yell a little louder for a group of 65 Garmin associates and friends,
decked out in argyle and Edge devices and collectively known as “The Other Team Garmin,” who have raised nearly $25,000 for the cause. All riders will embark on a
38-, 70- or 100-mile journey to Lawrence, where they will spend the night,
before biking back to Garmin headquarters on Sunday.
The Other Team Garmin – who named themselves that to avoid getting confused for a slightly faster group of riders – is in its third year and continues to grow. From a small but smiling group of 12 colleagues in 2010 to a team of several dozen coworkers, friends and family members, TOTG has enjoyed spreading the spirit and the message of Bike MS as far as possible. In fact, this year’s top fundraiser was the friend of an employee, and Chad (pictured at right) traveled all the way from New York to participate and raised nearly $2,000 in the process. A few teammates enjoyed a shakeout ride today over lunch, pausing before the start for a picture near the Garmin jeep – a popular attraction at Garmin events as it gives curious visitors an up-close look at our products.
If you’re along the route or near Garmin HQ or Lawrence this weekend, take a few minutes to cheer the cyclists on the roads.
