Hospital Hill Race Recap

W_10k_winnerM_10k_winnerJennifer, women’s winner of the 10k, with a time of 41:32, is all smiles after accepting her cash prize and a new Garmin Forerunner 305. Next up is Ben, who posted a course record of 31 minutes flat to take the men’s title in the 10k. Bet he’ll be up for more PRs with his new Forerunner. BTW, don’t these two runners look great together? Word has it Jen and Ben are betrothed! Partners to be, with new personal trainers to boot! I couldn’t stay for the half marathon winners to be announced, but you can check out the race results here for all 3 distances — half marathon, 10k and 5k.

Garmin’s GPS-enabled Forerunner kept many of the 3,000 participating runners on pace as we provided Forerunners for all pace team leaders to wear throughout the race. When I crossed the first timing chip mat and punched my start button, I heard the familiar beep, beep, beep of other Forerunners, signaling the numbers of other runners who’d be getting accurate time, distance and pace data every step of the way.

Fountains All in all, it was a great race — wonderfully organized, perfect location (even indoor facilities at Crown Center for food, drink and restrooms!) and a little something for everyone. Yes, even a spot for young spectators to cool off. What else would you expect from the City of Fountains? Next year’s race date: June 7, 2008. Save the date!
