X-Alps

Early next month we will be at the world’s highest and widest mountain ranges. We will start in Salzburg sponsoring the world’s toughest adventure race, the Red Bull X-Alps. The Red Bull X-Alps is one of the harshest races on the planet where competitors travel through the Alps in Salzburg, Austria to Landing Float, Monaco. Over the past years the X-Alps race has tested the limit of some of the world’s top adventure athletes. It takes an extremely high level of fitness, technical skill and endurance to finish.

The rules are pretty simple. The athletes must journey across the Alps, either by foot or paraglide a distance of almost 650 miles. It demands not only expert paragliding skills, but also extreme perseverance and endurance on foot. Some days the athletes will hike over 60 miles, hundreds of miles on foot, and a thousand feet in altitude. Each team consists of one athlete and one supporter and there is no technical assistance allowed. The supporter is there to help with logistics, tactical assistance, nutrients, medical aid, and provide psychological encouragement as well. The first athlete to finish in Monaco wins the race.

Garmin will not only be the official action camera sponsor for the Red Bull X-Alps where we will have a fundamental role by capturing footage of all the athletes with our new VIRB XE action camera, but we will also be supporting two competitive athletes along the way, Paul Guschlbauer from Austria and Tom De Dorlodot from Belgium. The Red Bull X-Alps starts on July 5th and we can’t wait to see the results from this extraordinarily challenging journey.
