Michelle Vesterby

Michelle Vesterby has had Garmin on her wrist and her bike for the past seven years! Since then she has traveled all over the world as a professional triathlete. This year alone she competed in the United States, Spain, United Arab Emirates and France. Now she is preparing for summer events in Germany and her homeland of Denmark.

Earlier in the season, we sat down with Vesterby to chat about how she is working hard to progress to the top of her sport.

How long does it take you to prepare for a single race? When I have IRONMAN Frankfurt (in July) I will have eight weeks where I am totally focused on that. It’s important for me to enjoy life at the beginning of the year so I have energy for the last part of the year.

What is your favorite discipline? I’m strong in both swimming and biking. I’m a former elite swimmer so that’s where I have my advantage, but I like the bike discipline too.

What are the benefits of the Forerunner 920XT in your training? You really get addicted to the numbers. I’ve been looking at cadence and ground contact time. It’s also helpful when swimming in open water. I like that it is lighter than before. It’s comfortable. It sits on my wrist and it looks good too.

How much have you enjoyed traveling and seeing the world with this sport? I just enjoy meeting new people and if you are open to that and seeing new places, then it can be very beneficial. There’s always something new to see. I can travel and do the sport I love to do.

You are very active on social media. What do you get out of those experiences? It gives me a lot of energy and I’m a sucker for likes on Facebook and Instagram. It’s fun to share stuff and be a little bit goofy. I’m just trying to be me and show the ups and downs of triathlon.

What are some of your favorite activities outside of training for triathlons? I love to spend time with my friends and family when I am off. During the season, I like to stop at local coffee shops wherever I’m training. It’s cozy. It’s a nice way to relax and sit down. I come out of there loaded with energy and then I can continue my day of training.
