Garmin Panoptix: Game Changer

Since Garmin Panoptix was announced back in February, it has been taking the fishing industry by storm. The revolutionary new technology helps fishermen refine their skills and knowledge of fish behavior for many reasons, but today we will just touch on a few.

  1. Testing baits becomes easier than ever before. Yes, the manufacturer’s packaging will tell you how deep that lure is supposed to go, but there are many variables, such as line size and speed of retrieve, that have an effect whether or not it actually reaches that depth. With Panoptix, you can see your bait live in the water column, as it is moving, in front or to the side of your boat. No matter the line size, Panoptix is spot-on in letting you how deep your bait is running.
  2. Panoptix gives you a live view of what is going on in the water in front of and around you. Traditional 2D sonar and DownVü show you what is below your boat, and SideVü gives you see a delayed picture on each side of your boat. With Panoptix, you now have the ability point your trolling motor literally wherever you want and are able to see fish, brush piles, stumps, depth contours, and much more. You no longer have to worry about spooking fish or wondering why a fish isn’t taking your bait. For instance, if you throw a squarebill crankbait up near the bank there a few times, watch a fish follow it live with Panoptix, but not commit, that might be an indication that you need to change colors. If that fish still isn’t interested in your crankbait, maybe it’s in the mood for something else, so you pitch a jig in there. BOOM! You saw that fish take your bait and were able to watch it unfold live on your GPSMAP 7610xsv, thanks to Panoptix.
