Garmin Introduces Wireless Cockpit Connectivity
Garmin is excited to introduce an expanded Connext portfolio of products and features, which includes connectivity between select Garmin avionics and Garmin Pilot for iPad/iPhone and certain Android devices. This connectivity is made possible by Flight Stream 110 or Flight Stream 210, which are small, Bluetooth wireless gateways that are easily installed and connected to Garmin avionics. Even more, it is compatible our GTN and GNS WAAS series navigators, G3X Touch, GDL 88 and GDL 69/69A, so thousands of customers can take advantage of this exciting new technology!
Flight Stream 210 enables two-way flight plan transfer to/from Garmin Pilot and the GTN 750/650 and GNS 430W/530W series navigators. G3X Touch has the Connext Bluetooth wireless gateway built-in, providing flight plan transfer capabilities. How easy is it? The flight plan transfer occurs within a couple taps when the avionics are powered on, so it is simple and fast!
Our GNS 430W/530W customers will notice a dramatic reduction in the amount of knob turning required to complete a flight plan with Flight Stream 210! Pilots flying with a GNS WAAS navigator can now incorporate Victor airway navigation into flight plans using Flight Stream 210 and Garmin Pilot. With a few simple taps within Garmin Pilot, routes, waypoints and airway intersections are quickly transferred to a GNS WAAS navigator.
Stream Weather, Traffic and More!
With Flight Stream 110 and Flight Stream 210, customers are offered the convenience of displaying weather and traffic information from a GDL 88 and/or GDL 69/69A on their mobile device using Garmin Pilot. With the GDL 88 ADS-B datalink and Flight Stream, pilots are offered the convenience of displaying ADS-B traffic and FIS-B weather on an iPad/iPhone or select Android mobile device.
Pilots who have a GDL 69/69A SiriusXM datalink receiver, are offered expanded functionality when incorporating Flight Stream 110/210 into their cockpit. Weather information from the GDL 69 can be displayed within Garmin Pilot, so accessing weather is even easier. Remote control of SiriusXM satellite radio is also available for customers with a GDL 69A. Access channel selections, volume controls, as well as save favorite audio channels for convenient access – all within Garmin Pilot! Back-up Attitude
Flight Stream 210 contains an internal attitude sensor, so back-up attitude information is available for display within Garmin Pilot. Also new, if a G500/G600 flight display is installed in the aircraft, its high-integrity attitude source will take priority and display on a mobile device (with a future software upgrade).
Share GPS Information With Garmin Pilot
Industry-leading GPS location information from the GTN and GNS WAAS navigators or GDL 88 with an internal WAAS receiver can be shared to display precise position information within Garmin Pilot. Depending on your installation, Flight Stream 110/210 eliminates the need for a dedicated GPS device for your tablet or phone by sharing the same, GPS information from your avionics.
If you’d like to see Flight Stream 110/210 in action along with our other Connext services, be sure to come visit Garmin in Hangar D at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin next week! We’ll be hosting a seminar every day at 11:30AM in Garmin Seminar Room 2 (located just outside of Hangar D) titled, “Cockpit Connectivity – Garmin Connext.” Once the seminar is over, be sure to stop by the Garmin booth for a one-on-one demo!
