Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late – Receive the Benefits of ADS-B Today!
Modifying the panel of any aircraft requires careful consideration, precise planning and an understanding of the benefits one will receive from an avionics upgrade. By December 31, 2019, the majority of aircraft operating in controlled airspace in the U.S. must be equipped to broadcast ADS-B ‘Out’. Garmin offers a number of solutions, which provide aircraft owners and operators industry-leading benefits. Furthermore, we make it easier than ever to comply and receive the benefits ADS-B provides without the hassle of time-consuming panel modifications and a lengthy (or costly!) installation.
If you’re concerned about making huge adjustments in the panel of your aircraft or don’t have room to add a display, we have a solution for you! Garmin’s GDL 88 allows aircraft owners and operators the opportunity to become ADS-B ‘Out’ compliant while taking advantage of the benefits ADS-B offers. With the addition of Flight Stream 110 or 210, which is a small, Bluetooth wireless gateway, pilots are offered the added convenience of displaying traffic and weather within the Garmin Pilot app on up to four iOS or select Android mobile devices.
What’s unique about our ADS-B solutions? Check out some screenshots I captured recently while flying with Garmin Pilot, which showcase Garmin’s industry-leading capabilities:
TargetTrend
Advanced traffic features available from the GDL 88 include TargetTrend relative motion technology, which displays the trend of traffic relative to the aircraft’s direction of flight. This technology allows you to easily understand and identify potential converging aircraft. TargetTrend is accessible within the dedicated traffic page and the moving map page in Garmin Pilot.
SURF
ADS-B-equipped surface targets are conveniently displayed within SafeTaxi airport diagrams thanks to SURF technology. Taxiing aircraft and ground vehicles are also available, so it’s easy to identify potential traffic threats both in the air and on the ground.
Weather
One look at this screenshot on a trip I made to Austin, Texas a few months ago and you can only imagine how thankful I was to have access to in-flight weather. Not only that, but FIS-B (Flight Information Service-Broadcast) weather is subscription-free! In April, the FAA also announced the completion of a nationwide network of ground stations in the U.S., ensuring pilots have access to the weather information they need.
Less than five years remain to comply with ADS-B and judging by the images above, why would you wait to start receiving the benefits of ADS-B ‘In”? With the GDL 88, Flight Stream 110/210 and Garmin Pilot, even more information is accessible in the cockpit and it doesn’t require a complete overhaul of your panel to meet the December 31, 2019 deadline! But, if you are considering a panel upgrade, our GTN touchscreen series also provides pilots with features such as TargetTrend, SURF and of course, the display of in-flight weather.
