How to Plan Road Trips with the víago Navigation App
Road trips are a great way to escape the daily grind of the office and discover new places around the country. As with any trip, preparation is key to make sure you’ll have an enjoyable experience, so before you hit the road next time, consider using Garmin’s new víago navigation app. Among many features, this new app allows you to plan your entire trip in advance, so you don’t have to worry about finding places while on the road. Use víago’s Trip Planner to organize all the locations you wish to visit on your trip and always know when you’ll arrive at your next destination. Even better, the app also allows you to download maps (in app purchase), so you can navigate even in area without cell reception, such as in the backcountry.
To use Trip Planner within víago, go to “Tools” and click on “Trip Planner.” From there you can add the locations you are planning to stop at. These stops can be points of interest, intersections, addresses, cities, and more.
After you have entered all the locations you’re planning to visit, you can sort those in the order you want to stop. By doing this, víago will generate a route that will get you to your stops the most efficient way according to your route preference. You can choose if you want to avoid traffic, toll roads, u-turns, and much more by adjusting your “Avoidances” in the settings.
Once you’ve saved your trip plans, víago will show you how long it takes to get to each of your destinations, how many miles your trip is, and your total trip time. If you want to change your route, you can do so by going back and adjusting your path. Once you are happy with the course, click “Display on Map”.
When viewing your map, each stop is labeled with a flag and a pink line will show you your planned route.
Once you’re ready to hit the road, press the car icon at the bottom of the maps page and víago will start directing you towards your first stop and show you your arrival time.
Víago is available to download in both Google Play and the App Store for $1.99. You can also easily upgrade your experience with premium in-app purchases like downloadable maps (“Maps to Go”) that don’t require a data connection to navigate, traffic live, mobile alerts, and much more.
