Ben and his coach capture swim split times and distances with Forerunner

So, how have I been using my Garmin Edge and Forerunner the past week? Indoors. I’ve turned off my GPS and focused on indoor training so I can really monitor my body. I still have power from my Quarq Cinqo power meter, in addition to heart rate and cadence (both on the treadmill and the bike), and I’ve been able to re-watch almost all of my small DVD collection. I did use my GPS for one workout. The pools were closed for Labor Day, so I swam in Lake Washington. The Forerunner 405 suggests that I refrain from swimming with it, so I handed it to my coach, Victor Plata, and let him measure my swim time and distance from a kayak. I swam about 3000m in the lake, and every 500m I asked for a split. It was nice to have a metric for speed in the open water, where I would normally go completely off perceived effort.
