Avoiding Gustav with a 496
My heart goes out to all affected by Gustav and to the families of those who lost their lives. Gustav isn’t dominating the news anymore, but even though it has been downgraded it sure is making a mess of the Midwest. It is definitely affecting a lot of flights in the area. One thing that I hear from customers on a regular basis is how XM WX weather helps to make the go – no go decision so much easier. Some customers think that adding weather to their cockpit has to be an expensive endeavor costing tens of thousands. Not so. Check out the GPSMAP 396 and GPSMAP 496, both of which can give you a clear view of what is out there and whether or not to venture out. With thunderstorm season upon us and hurricanes lining up in the Atlantic, knowing where the weather is at makes all the difference.
A note from the blog editors: Regular Garmin blog followers know that Roger, of Roger’s Runway fame, recently started learning to fly helicopters. We’re keeping tabs on Roger and we thought you’d like to know that he completed his first solo flight. Congrats to Roger — and his flight instructor! — for getting up to speed on a rotorcraft so fast!
