Approach S1 scores an ace at PGA Show
Though the blizzard now covering us makes it seem a world away, last week's PGA Show in Orlando was a huge success for Garmin golf. While many people still marveled at the easy touchscreen interface and preloaded color mapping of the Approach G5 and Approach G3 handhelds, there was no mistaking the star of the show: Approach S1, the first golf GPS watch preloaded with thousands of courses. People flocked to our booth each day, either to ask us about this easy-to-use watch, try it on for themselves – or show us the Approach S1 already wrapped comfortably on their wrist.
After doing some pre-show testing, Golf Digest liked Approach S1 so much that they named it one of the 11 Coolest Items of 2011 out of thousands and thousands of new products. "GPS devices have never been simpler," they wrote. "The Approach S1 harbors Garmin's tried-and-true technology within the small confines of a wristwatch. Sure, more golfers take off their watches before playing golf, but this one is worth keeping on. You'll know the yardage to the front, middle and back of every green in less than a second. And since it's preloaded with more than 14,500 golf courses in North America, the Approach S1 is ready to use straight out of the box."
