Tales of Astro survival from an owner and his dog

Many people don't realize that when we're developing products we put them through extreme test conditions. We drop 'em, dunk 'em, freeze 'em, and heat 'em, and that's just a few of the tests engineering puts products through. We're proud that our devices are rugged and can stand up to the challenges our customers give them — even accidental challenges. Here's a great testimonial sent to the Garmin inbox from Robert and his dog Sammie in Europe, and their Astro dog-tracking system that survived an accidental challenge.

Sammie I thought you might be amused by my story! I have a Garmin Astro dog tracking collar plus a very determined wire-haired Dachshund, Sammie, who is never happier than when hunting down badger and coypu. He lost his first collar and I then ordered a new one and to my horror, we then lost that one as well. This was last September. Last week I thought I really must try and recover the one from the coypu burrow. As luck would have it, I was able to find it – all covered in clayey mud…and in 2 inches of water! I washed and dried it off and very gingerly plugged it into the charger, expecting it to blow all the fuses – but much to my amazement the blue light came on and it started charging. I was equally delighted when I used the handset and tried to locate the collar to find that the whole set-up worked fine. That is for me pretty amazing and shows the calibre of the product. So many many thanks. I now have to be careful that Sammie does not lose the collar again and plan to attach it to a harness.

Many thanks Garmin! You are stars!
