Wings For Life World Run: Running For Those Who Can’t

The Wings for Life World Run is a unique event that occurs at the same time in over 34 locations worldwide. Runners, wheelchair competitors, and elite athletes race side-by-side beginning at 11 am UTC on May 8, 2016. Depending on where you are, it could be day or night, spring or fall, the only constant is you are running together for the same cause. Another exclusive feature of this particular run is that there is no finish line. The finish line is different for everyone because the Catcher Car is the finish line. Thirty minutes after start time, the Catcher Car begins its chase. The goal is to stay in front of the Catcher Car because when it catches up to you, you are finished with the race.

If you can’t make it to one of the 34 locations, you can still participate by running the Selfie Run. Wherever you may be, you can take on the virtual Catcher Car using the Wings for Life App. This race doesn’t have a set distance, you can either aim for a 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon and more, or just run and see how far you get! To help prepare, use the Goal Calculator on the Wings For Life World Run website. Simply enter the distance or time you’d like to run, and it calculates your pace; or you can put in your estimated pace and get your expected time and distance.

Throughout the upcoming months, we will be featuring athletes and ambassadors from around the world that will be participating in the Wings for Life World Run. It will give a global perspective to the run as well as feature the diverse race locations. Keep checking in to view athlete profiles, tips and tricks for preparing for the run and post race content! Everyone can be involved in this run, no matter where you are or skill level. All of the entry fees goes directly to spinal cord research. The Wings for Life Foundation’s mission is to find a cure for spinal cord injury and it’s mantra is to run for those who can’t.

Sign-up today to volunteer, donate, fundraise, or run! You can even give the gift of running and encourage someone to run this race by purchasing a voucher for them.
