Website Update for ActiveCaptain Community

Since the Garmin acquisition of ActiveCaptain in late 2017, our developers have been busy behind the scenes — enlarging and improving the infrastructure behind this fast-growing community of boaters who want to stay connected, both on and off the water. Starting May 23, you’ll see several updates to this free online venue that promise to bring even more access and value to the ActiveCaptain experience. Here’s a quick sampling of what’s in the works:

We’re Boosting Data Security
New international General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) for internet security and user privacy rights take effect May 25, 2018. In conjunction with this regulation, we’re taking the opportunity to improve your ActiveCaptain experience with updated servers and a new website design.

We’re Integrating with Navionics
If you’re using the Navionics Boating app, you’ll soon be able to access the ActiveCaptain community through your mobile device. We’ll be adding this capability before year-end 2018.

eBoatCards is Phasing Out
Low usage levels and the need to improve data security have prompted us to discontinue eBoatCards and its companion app, ActiveCaptain Locations. If you currently have pictures or contact information you want to save from the eBoatCards site, click here to learn how.

A New Website is Coming
We plan to launch our new site on May 23, 2018. It will have a simplified ActiveCaptain map interface and new marker updates that make it even easier to locate, identify and share up-to-date information on marinas, anchorages, reported hazards and other local points of interest. (Note: Users will no longer be able to create routes on the new website).

The ActiveCaptain Community will remain a free resource, connecting you with user-generated information for boaters. We are committed to growing the community with you, so watch for more updates. Happy boating!
