Victor’s Vectors: News flash for the G3X and Pilot My-Cast on iPhone

The year is still young but Garmin is continuing its stampede of new products and new features that we started in 2009. Today, Garmin announced the addition of engine sensors and autopilot interface to the experimental G3X system. This software and sensor pack will enable the customization of engine gauges, color bands, and audible/visual alerts, and it also provides support for a laundry list of sensor types.  In addition to engine monitoring, Garmin will release software to integrate the G3X with the TruTrak GX Pilot autopilot. This integration will implement the use of sophisticated flight control modes including altitude preselect and capture, heading hold, GPS navigation with turn anticipation, and coupled VNAV descents. The G3X will also fly coupled holding patterns, procedure turns, and WAAS approaches when used in conjunction with a GNS 400W/500W series unit. Experimental aircraft with the G3X can make this leap in safety and sophistication in February 2010 through www.garmin.com.

This aviation app puts national weather data, flight planning details, and airport information right at your fingertips. It’s an invaluable service it’s available at the app store for a monthly fee of only $9.99 or an annual subscription of $99.99. We may be only weeks into 2010, but we’re already off to a great start.
