Victor’s Vectors: AOPA Airport Directory now on G1000
We recently made a slight change on flyGarmin that has generated quite a bit of interest. Customers with a G1000 noticed a new database had been added to the list of possible downloads. This database has been around since the release of the GPSMAP 496, but has now made a jump to the panel mounted systems. This database is none other than the AOPA Airport Directory, and it contains useful information such as control tower hours, noise abatement procedures, pattern altitudes, runway type and length, and fixed base operator (FBO) information. The database also includes general information for nearby restaurants, car rentals, lodging, and much more.
The next question I normally hear from customers at this point is, “Will it work on my G1000?” The answer is yes, IF you have GDU software 10.0 or higher. To find out if that includes your G1000, you can check your GDU software by going to the System Status page in the MFD’s AUX page group. Cursor down the list of LRU information till you see MFD1, then look to the right to read the software version. If your G1000 doesn’t have 10.0 yet, your aircraft manufacturer will know when this software will be integrated into your airframe.
