Tour of Missouri: Vande Velde, Team Garmin stifle attacks

CvvAlong with the Tour of Missouri logo, the yellow jersey might as well include a giant bulls-eye. The strategy was clear in Thursday’s stage 4 from Lebanon to Rolla: Catch Christian Vande Velde. Team Garmin’s objective was just as obvious – protect their teammate and keep him in the overall lead. In the end, the argyle armada held off the aggressors and helped Christian maintain his hold on the yellow jersey.

Preliminary results show Christian finishing in the top four for the stage and preserving his lead over Michael Rogers, Svein Tuft and fellow countryman George Hincapie. No doubt these top contenders and their teammates will again square off in the front of the field Friday as the Tour of Missouri travels 108 miles from St. James to Jefferson City. They’re getting a late start tomorrow and aren’t expected to reach the state capitol until after 6 p.m., so check out these options for tracking the tour live. See you tomorrow as we kick off a great weekend!
