Tour of California: Emphasizing the “team” in Team Garmin

Andrew TOC4_511-118 Ryder ATOC4_511-116 Showcasing their collective strength, Team Garmin continued to be a presence in the front of the peloton and at the top of the general classification leaderboard as the Tour of California capped off a frenzied sprint in Stage 3 (where world champ Thor Hushovd placed 3rd) and a strenuous mountaintop finish a day later. Wednesday's Stage 4 saw the climbers grab the spotlight, and Ryder Hesjedal's aggressive attack set up a Garmin caravan across the finish line – Tom Danielson took 5th, Christian Vande Velde was 6th, Ryder came in 7th, Andrew Talansky 9th and Dan Martin 11th. With this impressive showing, Garmin now has these five riders in the top 12 overall, with Andrew in the Best Young Rider's jersey and Ryder honored as Wednesday's Most Courageous.

DanielsonATOC3_511-143 HushovdRollATOC3_511-133 After Stage 4, Ryder talked with VeloNews' John Wilcockson, who wrote: "Canadian Ryder Hesjedal not only earned stage 4’s most aggressive rider award but he also dynamited the race with his preemptive attack coming off the hors-cat Mount Hamilton climb that enabled his Garmin-Cervélo team to pack five riders into the top 12 of this sixth Amgen Tour of California." You can see the whole interview here and check out a photo gallery, and we love the closing line: "Garmin has a golden opportunity to go on the attack again in Thursday’s hilly 135-mile stage from Seaside to Paso Robles. And that’s just how Hesjedal likes to race — and have fun!"

Meanwhile, Christophe Le Mevel continues to impress at the Giro d'Italia, where he is in fourth place overall after being part of a breakaway Wednesday that nearly put him into the maglia rosa (the leader's jersey). You can read the race report at SlipstreamSports.com and follow the action on Twitter.
