The 2015 Patriot Cup Invitational
What will you be doing to honor those who fight for our freedom on Memorial Day? We will be in Oklahoma for The Patriot Cup Invitational! It’s an exclusive, invitation-only golf tournament and gala celebrating our nation’s heroes. The event is co-hosted by Folds of Honor and The Patriot Golf Club.
Folds of Honor was formed in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney soon after he returned from his second tour of duty as an F-16 fighter pilot. It was on a short, commercial flight, that Major Rooney witnessed an event that would change his life and thousands of others. As the flight landed, the pilot announced they had brought home a hero, the remains of a fallen soldier and requested passengers respectfully remain seated while his casket was presented to his grieving family. Major Rooney watched the proceeding through tears. At it’s conclusion, he was heartbroken to see that over half the passengers had disregarded the pilot’s request and left the plane as the proceedings were taking place outside. From then on, Major Dan Rooney had found a new mission in his life.
That mission was to pay tribute to American military personnel and their families and to live as a reminder among civilians that it’s our duty to honor the sacrifices of those who preserve the freedoms we so easily take for granted. That’s why he formed the Folds of Honor. The non-profit organization is dedicated to providing educational aid and scholarships to the spouses and dependents of those that have been killed or disabled while in service in our nation’s armed services. To date, the Folds of Honor has awarded over 10,000 scholarships with recipients in all 50 states.
We will be outfitting the attendees with Garmin devices, capturing the amazing moments that happen on the course and sharing them live on social media on Memorial Day. Check out some of the highlights from last year:
