Team Garmin: Two in top five overall

Vdv_attackThe newest team in town is proving it belongs on cycling’s biggest stage. In Thursday’s first mountain stage through the Massif Central, Team Garmin’s Christian Vande Velde went on the offensive with 5 km left and held off the chase group until about the last kilometer. Christian’s aggressive riding moved him into fourth place overall, one spot ahead of teammate David Millar. With two cyclists in the top five of the overall standings, it’s easy to see why Team Garmin is still the top overall team going into Stage 7.

"My attack today on Super Besse gave me confidence," Christian wrote in his entry on the Team Garmin blog. "Attacking like that is way out of my character. I am a conservative rider and that was anything but. I would’ve surely finished with the leaders today, but I risked it all for a chance at the yellow jersey for either Dave or myself. The Tour is long though, and even though I spent some energy in the final today, it gives me confidence for the future."

And it makes us confident that Team Garmin will continue to be the team to watch in the Tour de France.
