David_zIt’s been a busy week for the boys in argyle with the Tour of Ireland wrapping up Sunday and the US Pro Time Trial and Road Championships taking place last weekend in Greenville, SC. Kiwi guy takes 3rd: After 5 days and nearly 22 hours of hard racing, Team Garmin’s Julian Dean (far left) finished the Tour of Ireland in 3rd place, just 21” off the winner, Marco Pinotti. Speedy Z: For the third year in a row, David Zabriskie (left; photo from Beijing TT) won the US Pro individual time trial. This is actually Z’s fourth title as US national TT champ, with his first win in 2004. Saturday’s race was heralded as a huge comeback for David after a serious crash and resulting back injury during stage 2 of the Giro d’Italia. Team Garmin dominated the TT event with four riders in the top 5. Christian Vande Velde finished third, Steven Cozza fourth and Tom Danielson fifth. Read the full post.

Hot, hot down south: Blake Caldwell took second in a photo finish for the US Pro national road race championships. Blake was backed by Danny Pate in third, Lucas Euser in fourth and Tom Danielson in sixth. From a blog post written by Lucas: “When this team began five years ago, one goal was to be in the Tour de France. The next goal was to make new American champions. Young talent was recruited throughout the US and thrown to the wolves; those that could hack it survived.
