Team Garmin: Looking For A Cold-Spell

Molly – This past Saturday I probably had my worst run since I began running back in November.  We opted for the early start in order to avoid the triple digit heat and headed out to Longview Lake for 12 miles.  The first 6 were great, the next two were a little slower, miles 8-10 were a mere trot, and 10-12 it was all I could do to finish.  For some reason my right stabilizers were extremely sore!  It was painful to walk and run, but more than anything I was frustrated!  The good news is that I’m pain free today and I’m not injured.  The Garmin held up well while I ran through the woods.  I never lost my signal.  I also decided to forego the pause feature so I knew exactly how long I was on my route.  That helped with accuracy when I approached the mile markers.  I am looking forward to only running 8 miles this Saturday.  But I still love it!

Angie – Wow, is it hot and humid out here this week! This week we did an early start of 6 a.m. for our run. I was pretty open to trying an 8 mile distance, however we chose to turn around at mile 3 for a 6 mile run. The humidity makes it super hard to breathe. Anyway, the Garmin seemed to work well in terms of tracking our distance. After the run, Jennifer and I compared our calories burned according to the Garmins. Jennifer’s read about 1500 calories burned, however mine read just under 600. I hope hers was right :-). Anyway, time to link up to the software and make sure everything is in sync, and I’ll measure again this weekend. I’ve really only signed up for the 5K schedule of running, with the intentions of completing the Kansas City 5K in October. This will allow me to run 4-8 miles on the weekends without damaging my knees.

Kate – It’s been a while, but I finally hit the pavement again this weekend for the first time in almost three weeks.  When we set out on our run, it was already in the 80’s, so it wasn’t the coolest day to run.  I haven’t worn my heart rate monitor since the marathon, but I think I’m going to get back in the habit of that to help monitor my training.  I also just recently started lifting weights on a regular basis, which I can already tell is helping my running.  Amazing all of the things that you learn when you start a new chapter in your life…like marathon training.  I was thinking about our running group the other day and laughed at how many Garmin’s we have between us all.  I now have 3 Forerunners (the 201, 301, and 305), a Street Pilot, and the Garmin on my phone.  Then, if you add the rest, we have 10 Forerunners between 7 of us!  We should buy stock.  Next week is forecasted to be extremely hot for our 12 mile run, so we’ll see how that turns out.
