Team Garmin: Hesjedal wins California finale, Zabriskie repeats as overall runner-up

St8team As a veteran role player for Team Garmin, Ryder Hesjedal always seems to be in the right place at the right time. In Sunday's final stage of the Tour of California, that right place just happened to be the finish line – and the right time was faster than anyone else's. After a flurry of attacks and counterattacks among the three overall leaders – which included teammate Dave Zabriskie at 9 seconds back – Ryder bridged ahead to the breakaway and outmaneuvered his fellow escapees for the stage win and fifth place overall. Dave Z cruised in moments later with the leaders, securing second place overall in a star-studded field for the second year in a row. Showcasing the depth of our roster, Team Garmin won top honors in the team classification and was the only squad to have all eight riders start the final stage. Once you factor in those feats and tally up stage wins by Dave and Ryder, two spots in the overall top 5 and Dave scoring the yellow jersey for two days midweek (and a new surfboard!) and third in the Los Angeles time trial, the argyle armada's eight days in California were a huge success. Confidence is high as the team also wraps up business in Italy and looks toward France in July. For more insight, reactions and cyclists' perspectives, be sure to visit Dave's USA Today blog, the team's race recaps and our Twitter
updates
as we count down the days to Rotterdam.
