VeloNews [UPDATE: Feb. 9: Within hours of posting this last night, it was already out of date. Heinrich Haussler won today’s stage at Tour of Qatar – his second in a row – and took the overall lead. Read race reports from VeloNews, CyclingNews and CyclingWeekly.]

For anyone who thinks that the professional cycling season is only interesting when the peloton hits France in July, you should check out Team Garmin-Cervelo’s recent results: three stage wins – two Trofeo Palma de Mallorca and one at Tour of Qatar – and one world record. And not just any world record, but one long thought unbreakable. And that’s just in the first 8 days of February. And March is already shaping up nicely with new teammates Tyler Farrar and world champ Thor Hushovd gracing the cover of VeloNews. And the season is just getting started.

Feb. 2: Jack Bobridge breaks Chris Boardman’s long-standing world record in the 4km individual pursuit at the Australia Track National Championships in Sydney. The 21-year-old’s time of 4.10.534 was more than half a second better than Boardman’s 1996 mark of 4.11.114. “I thought the clock had stopped a lap early,” Jack said, “so I had to look at it a few times, but then I saw everyone going crazy, and then it started to get a little overwhelming.”

Feb. 6: Tyler Farrar wins Trofeo Palma, the first round in the five-day 2011 Mallorca Challenge. “It feels good to get a win on the books early in the season,” Tyler said.

Feb. 7: Tyler wins the second stage of the Mallorca Challenge. “It’s always good to win, especially here in the first races in Europe,” Garmin-Cervélo sport director Bingen Fernández told VeloNews.

Feb. 8: Heinrich Haussler wins second stage of Tour of Qatar. “It’s really important to start the season off with a good result,” he explained to CyclingNews (who also shot a great video). “Then you start the next race on a high and you build on that.”

We look forward to it!
