Team Garmin cyclists wrap up Beijing time trial
Riding for Team USA in Beijing, David Zabriskie finished 12th in today’s 47 km time trial and Canadian Ryder Hesjedal finished 16th. This was David Z’s first event after an untimely crash in the Giro d’Italia in June. World champ time trialist Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland took gold with a time of 1h02’11, followed by Sweden’s Gustav Larsson and Levi Leipheimer of the U.S. Visit the Team Garmin page for more updates, including an interview with 18-year-old Taylor Phinney, who rides for the team’s under 23 team. Taylor will be competing in the 4000 meter short track event in Beijing, with qualifying round this Friday. In the interview, Taylor reflects on his heavy-medal heritage. His dad, Davis Phinney, won bronze in the road race at 1984 L.A. games while mom, Connie Carpenter-Phinney, won gold in the road race the same year. Connie’s win made her the first American woman to take gold in a cycling event. And just today, Kristin Armstrong became the second when she took gold in the women’s time trial. And no … she’s not related to Lance.
