IMGP0725“It’s been an amazing week from start to finish. I don’t think any of us really knew what this week was going to be like, but it has been an amazing race from Colorado Springs to Denver,” said Garmin-Cervélo team veteran Christian Vande Velde. “I had a lot of bridesmaids positions this week so that was hard toPodium Colorado swallow, but it’s been great standing up on the podium with these guys, especially with the crowds in Denver today.”

Big crowds, big mountains and big results is the best way to sum up the inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado for Garmin-Cervélo. Vande Velde rode his way through the winding roads of the centennial state and over the high altitude mountain passes to an impressive second place overall finish, and only a mere 11 seconds behind the winner Levi Leipheimer.

“I have to say what a great job Garmin-Cervélo did here,” Leipheimer said. “Of course it is their home town and it took some of the best form in my career to beat Christian and Garmin-Cervélo this week. Hats off to them, they are the lTeam Coloradoocal favorites and I really appreciate the race they put on.”

Colorado native and recent top 10 Tour de France finisher Tom Danielson ended this action packed race in fourth place and 21 seconds behind the yellow jersey of Leipheimer. Battling the thin air at altitudes reaching 12,000ft and a mid-race bout with food poisoning, Danielson powered on to help Garmin win another major race team championship.

Further demonstrating their strength and depth, we travel Stage 9 profile to Spain where other members of Garmin- Cervélo are competing in the Vuelta a España. This grueling three-week stage race is one of the three Grand Tours and the site for Garmin’s Dan Martin to shine. In yesterday’s ninth-stage uphill finish, Martin showed he has what it takes to be a DAN1 contender for the general classification in this and races to come. Martin sits less than 60 seconds behind race leader Bauke Mollema and currently holds the King Of The Mountain Jersey (KOM).
