Oregon

The state of Oregon is full of adventure. The pacific west state is home to more than 6,000 lakes and 112,000 miles of streams and rivers. It contains almost 6,000 registered campsites along with 230 state parks and 13 national forests.  Nearly half of the state of Oregon is covered with forested area. It’s the perfect place for outdoor adventures. If you are planning to head up to Oregon sometime soon, we have complied a list of some of the great places to find adventure while in the Beaver State.

Mount Hood Mountain

MtHood

One of the first places you should visit in Oregon is Mount Hood Mountain. With the highest elevation point in the state at 11,249 feet and stunning views from the top, this is a must see location. Mount Hood is measured as a sleeping volcano where steam can be seen regularly spewing from certain areas of the mountain.  It is also the second most climbed mountain in the world and contains 5 ski areas. With 3,590 vertical feet, the Timberline Lodge Ski Area’s 1,000 acres possesses the greatest vertical feet of ski terrain in the Pacific Northwest.

Hells Canyon

HellsCanyon

Hells Canyon is another must see while in Oregon. The canyon extends 10 miles through 3 states and is the deepest river gorge in North America. It is also one of the Oregon’s greatest attractions and today hosts many fishing tours as well as whitewater rafting voyages and jet boat tours. The Hells Canyon wilderness area is composed of 216,981 acres of high mountain peaks, canyon valleys, and breathtaking views. This area also embraces rustic remains from early miners and settlers. It also has a vast open wilderness that’s perfect landscape for hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding.

The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument

Last on our list is The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. This national attraction is one of the richest fossil sites in the world.  A visit here is like drifting back in time. The monument covers a total area of 22 square miles and was first recognized as an important fossil site in the 1860s. The legendary park is separated into 3 broadly divided sections: Sheep Rock Unit, Painted Hills Unit, and Clarno Unit. All of these locations contain extraordinary ancient fossils of plants and animals from different time periods. The area inside and outside of the monument contains beautiful landscapes and numerous places to hike or ride bikes.

Oregon is the perfect spot to explore, hike, bike, ski, and to even learn more about our planet’s history. Tune in next week for another state adventure series post and don’t forget to share with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and use hashtag #HaveNoLimits.
