Space: The Final Frontier

Hamradio Meet Bruce Stucky, an avionics engineer here at Garmin.  In his spare time, Bruce is a ham, or amateur radio operator.  Earlier this week, Bruce was on the radio at his home when a call came from the International Space Station.  Seems as though astronaut Bill McArthur was trying to contact a Kansas radio operator in his quest to reach hams in all 50 states, as part of NASA’s amateur radio project.  Bruce has been an amateur radio operator since 1970, and he’s talked with people all over the world — but this encounter was truly out-of-this-world.

“Operating an amateur radio is kind of like going fishing,” Bruce explains.  “And catching this call is a real trophy.”

Congrats, Bruce!
