Running streak

It’s one thing to run four half marathons in the span of two months. It’s quite another to win every one of them. Garmin associate and All-American Mathew Chesang is keeping up his streak since his days leading the Kansas State University cross-country team from 2001-2004. Mathew’s most recent win was last Saturday in Duluth, Minnesota—the Garry Bjorklund half marathon, run in conjunction with Grandma’s Marathon. His time of 1:04:48 was a PR and while we’d like to think his new Forerunner 405 helped him achieve a PR, the reality is this guy’s just crazy fast. It’s in the Kenyan genes he shares with his brother, who currently runs for the University of Kansas. Mathew’s previous wins in 2008 were the Hospital Hill half marathon in Kansas City, the Cleveland, Ohio half and the St. Louis half. And those aren’t his only top placements. He has quite an impressive running resume and has rubbed racing flats with other young and aspiring runners, like Ryan Hall, who’ll represent the U.S. men’s marathon team in Beijing this summer. Mathew actually beat Hall in an NCAA meet several years ago. What’s next on Mathew’s race schedule? Stay tuned—the streak has just begun.
