Roger’s Runway: ICAO flight plans
Recently the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) changed some of the information that is needed to file an international flight plan. The ICAO wants international operators to provide more data regarding their navigational equipment that might be in the aircraft. Many of the questions are related to the Box 10 and Box 18 on the international flight plan. Box 10 asks about what type of equipment you have in the aircraft. According to the instructions you will put in the letter “S” for a standard Com/Nav and the letter “G” for the GNSS, which is any IFR GPS certified to TSO C-129 (Class A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, or C2). As for Box 18… that can get a little more complicated. The GNS 430/530 systems can fly RNAV 1 SIDS and STARS, but this capability is dependent on other criteria. You will need to check with AC-90-100A to see if there are any other requirements that your aircraft will need. If you do not have a 430/530 then you will need to check the compliance table that the FAA has. If your 430/530 and aircraft meet the requirements then you can fill Box 18 with NAV/RNVD1A1.
