Taylor_3 Davis_and_connie_2 Must-see TV: tune in to NBC nightly news tonight with an interview of Taylor Phinney, the 18-year-old cycling sensation who rides for Team Garmin’s under 23 team. Today, Mini Phinney clocked the 7th fastest time in qualifying heats for the 4000 meter track event. Taylor’s time was 4’22.860”. Tomorrow he’ll be racing New Zealand’s Hayden Roulston in the third heat of the semi-finals, scheduled for 16:30 Beijing time. Check out the Team Garmin page for news through the weekend and don’t miss the blog post written by his sister Kelsey. And if you hadn’t heard about Taylor’s heavy-medal heritage, you likely will in tonight’s interview. Just look at those proud parents, hopeful for another medalist in the family.

Back in the states, Team Garmin riders Jason Donald and Blake Caldwell are blazing through the southwest, winning stages 1 and 2, respectively, in the Tour of Utah. Blake’s doing double duty on this tour, serving as the team’s on-site reporter … when he’s not climbing mountains and recovering for the next day’s journey. Today’s ride included more than 10,000 feet of climbing, so Blake earned every stitch of that yellow jersey when he took it from teammate Jason. Another Team Garmin rider, Peter Stetina, made the podium today as well, earning the Best Young Rider classification.
