Peg’s Posts: Ready to Rock the Parkway

Before race Barring the rain and sleet we pounded through last year at this race, Jake thinks he can help me shave some minutes off my half marathon time, which has hovered around 1:45. Just for old-times’ sake, here’s a flashback photo of Jake, his wife Jocie and me before the 2007 KC half marathon. My first in many respects. My first half marathon, my first time to fundraise for Girls on the Run, my first time to run a race with Jake. Thanks to Jake’s running dialogue distraction tactics, I remember more of the laughs than the pain and we came within minutes of my “A” goal. Tomorrow, I’m looking forward to having more entertainment along the course than even Jake can provide. At miles 1.5 and 12, volunteers, coaches and participants from Girls on the Run will be cheering us on and handing out water. Our local queen of Girls on the Run aid stations, Anna, always has a creative theme or costume in the wings, so I can’t wait to see what’s brewing this year. I’ll also be looking forward to some original tunes from Ironband, who’ll be rocking it right near the Girls on the Run stations. To all who are running or volunteering, have a great event and we'll see you there!
