Peg’s Posts: motivation from many sources

Bently + bike Bently, Ironman AZ-2 When I first started in the sport, I ran by feel. Using the Garmin products has given me the data to guide my training. It’s taken me awhile to figure out the formula, but it’s all about data collection and analysis. My first triathlon in 2005 was a sprint distance and I placed 132nd overall.  It has been motivating to watch my progress into top 100. In 2008, I placed 51st overall.  By the end of 2009, I made it into the top 10 in two races. I moved to Olympic distance in 2010, where the real competition was, but stayed top 30. At the 70.3 distance, I was back to 183rd overall, then 61st, and 45th overall for 2011 with two top 12 finishes in the Olympic distance. For me, it all has to do with the data collection that I’ve gotten from my Forerunner and Garmin Connect for data analysis. Without those, I would not have figured out the correlation of consistency and long-term performance. Seems like a no-brainer, but when you’re looking at the numbers, it just makes more sense. This info has also helped me to be successful in self-coaching and realistic goal setting.
