Oshkosh AirVenture 2015 is in the books. It’s always a bittersweet feeling when the week comes to an end – our airplanes are packed with camping equipment, goodbyes are said, and the Wittman Regional Airport grounds clear for 51 weeks, until the early birds begin arriving next year. 2015 proved to be a fantastic year at Oshkosh. Attendance was up, aircraft arrivals were at an all time high and new and exciting airshow demonstrations wowed the crowds.

It was a great year for us at the Garmin exhibit too! We had a chance to show off more of our products in our new location, and the booth was always full. There was a buzz of enthusiasm around the Oshkosh grounds about our G3X experimental avionics systems. A number of homebuilt aircraft sported the Garmin G3X systems including three award winning aircraft, with their owners and pilots brimming with superlatives. Homebuilders are excited about the new generation G3X Touch product that expands on the capabilities of the G3X Legacy system and includes a convenient touch screen.

ICON A5

On Monday, July 20, Icon Aircraft delivered the first production A5 to EAA Young Eagles Chairman Sean Tucker. The A5, which is standard equipped with the Garmin aera 796 GPS System, is a unique and exciting aircraft to the new light sport aircraft market. It combines amphibious aircraft capabilities with a long list of features that make it a great aircraft for the adventurer in all of us. We had a chance to check out a daily flight demonstration at the EAA Oshkosh Seaplane Base on Lake Winnebago, and it was spectacular!

On Thursday and Friday of last week we had a chance to hang out with Red Bull Air Race pilot Pete McLeod. The Garmin race team pilot, who currently sits in fifth place in the Red Bull Air Race standings, arrived Wednesday in his Cessna 414 and dedicated time to sign autographs and take over the @GarminAviation Instagram account. Pete took us around the grounds and shared his Oshkosh experiences with followers. Pete Photo

Although we’ve put our planes in their hangars, and said goodbye to a few friends, there’s no need to dwell. Let the planning commence for next year. See you at Oshkosh 2016.
