Mark’s summer has been rather action-packed so far with lots of travel, appearances, movie shoots, and don’t forget his nomination at the ESPY awards for best male action sports athlete. When he’s not being pulled in every direction, Mark’s focuses on skating, surfing, practicing yoga, and working out rigorously with his trainer. As mark puts it, “It’s hard for me to sit still so I’m always on the go!”

When asked how surfing and snowboarding are similar, Mark said, “There are a lot of similarities in both sports, but there are also a lot of differences.  Surfing takes a lot of patience.  Learning how to read the ocean and the waves is extremely difficult and is a huge part of getting good at surfing. Snowboarding is something I grew up doing so I was able to get the fundamentals out of the way at an early age.”

During the regular season, things can be hectic. One of Mark’s favorite things about the off-season is spending as much time with his family and friends and most importantly having fun. Later this summer, he will be traveling to Australia to wrap up a video shoot with Burton and will then focusing on continuing his snowboarding legacy this season.

When asked about what he’s most looking forward to this season Mark said, “I’m really excited for the X Games and the US Open.  The other contest that has sparked my curiosity is the new X Games stop in Oslo, Norway.  It’s an awesome place to visit and I’m sure they will put on a great event!” Last winter proved to be a success for Mark, winning first place in Slopestyle and Big Air at the 2015 Winter X-Games in Aspen, and finishing second at the Burton U.S. Open and Burton European Open.
