Meet Team Garmin: David

Teamgarmin Last but certainly not least, today we introduce the final member of Team Garmin for this summer’s Ride the Rockies cycling event.  Team Garmin is a group of “average” people doing amazing things with Garmin fitness devices — namely the Edge and Forerunner series.  You’ve met Daren, Kris, and Patty… today it’s David’s turn to say hello:

It is intriguing how strong one’s memory can be. As a former college athlete (I’m #3 in the photo), I have a certain “physical” self image. Unfortunately, it does not match the image of me in the eyes of my friends and family who have entered my life A.M. (after marriage). As a trained mathematician, I can appreciate data and statistical analysis. I much less appreciate that I have become a living data point in support of the 7 lbs per annum folklore. Since my wedding day ten years ago, I have added 7 lbs of weight (on average) for each year of marriage. For those of you less mathematically inclined, I have added in physical size the equivalent of a 9-yr-old child since blurting the words, “I do.” Since I have a 70 pound, 9-yr-old son (Jacob), I am reminded each day just how BIG that is. Reality (in this case) sucks!

That was painful to admit! That IS a problem. Here IS the solution…

Exercise, Camaraderie, Challenges, Success! These are the results I seek by participating in the Ride the Rockies (RTR) bicycling event in June 2006. The camaraderie has begun, as has the exercise. I am privileged to join Team Garmin for this year’s RTR event. Even more exciting to me is utilizing the best gear available — Garmin’s Edge 305 — to track my progress.

I have enjoyed more than my fair share of success in my lifetime. However, I look forward to enjoying success in addressing my health issues. I have four younger children (Jacob – 9, Morgan – 6, Carter & Casen – 4) and a beautiful wife, Sandra. Earlier successes (financial, athletic, and relational) were for me. This success is more important. And it is for my family – though I guarantee self gratification will definitely be in play when it is all said and done.
