Jenna trains “Down Under”

Jenna2009a Garmin-sponsored triathlete Jenna Shoemaker shares her training and racing experiences with Garmin fitness devices and Garmin Connect.

After a long and well-deserved off season, the last one I will likely see before the London Olympics, training for the 2010 season is now well underway. I arrived to Canberra, Australia at the start of the month to join my coach and training group for "training camp". Last year we trained up north on the Gold Coast of Queensland, so arriving to Canberra I was not sure what to expect. Despite hearing a lot of negative reports on the city, which was actually designed by an American planner, I absolutely love it here. The lake is fantastic for open water swimming and I don't have to worry about being eaten by any great white sharks. Riding and running are terrific as well and my Garmin FR60, Forerunner 310XT and Edge 705 have already started logging hours and kilometers for me. I will be training here until I open my season at the end of March. I am currently planning to race at the Mooloolaba World Cup at the end of March and then travel to Sydney for the first World Championship Series Race on April 11 before heading back to the USA. I am thrilled to have the support of Garmin again this year and to continue to stay one step ahead of my competition with the help of all of their fantastic training devices. Here’s a look at a couple of my recent rides in Garmin Connect: a very hilly ride in Canberra and last Sunday’s training ride.
