Garmin Tri-Tronics Goes Dog Training With Ronnie Smith
With spring finally here, bird hunters’ attention turns to training dogs – whether it’s refining the work of older dogs, or introducing young dogs to birds and hunting in anticipation of the upcoming fall hunting season.
Recently, we attended a Foundation seminar at Ronnie Smith Kennels in Big Cabin, Oklahoma. Ronnie, his wife Susanna, and his cousin Rick Smith recently joined the Garmin team, and they’re now actively using our dog tracking and training products – whether it’s the Delta Sport, BarkLimiter Deluxe, or Alpha GPS Track and Train System.
The Smiths are truly “experts in their field,” and it didn’t take long to understand that after arriving for the seminar. Over the course of a couple of days, we listened to Ronnie and Susanna explain the finer points of heeling, handling, and helping young dogs to locate birds and work with their human counterparts.
Most importantly, the Smiths stress a relationship with your dog that’s built on consistency, trust, and a positive approach that allows the dog to reach its fullest potential. After explaining the concept, Ronnie demonstrates it, and then participants practice the exercises with their own dogs, getting feedback along the way. The improvement in our dogs was impressive – even after just a couple of days.
It’s a teriffic curriculum and one that any bird dog owner will appreciate. Rick and Ronnie travel the country giving these seminars, and it’s likely that there’s one in your neck of the woods. You owe it to yourself to sign up!
