Rule No.1 for preventing a stroke is don’t have one.

It may seem obvious, but that’s the motto Sean Maloney lives by now. The former Intel executive has been on a mission since suffering his stroke in early 2010 to not only recover, but also prevent anyone else from going through his struggle.

Now Sean, with the help of several sponsors, will bike from March through June to raise awareness in the Heart Across America event, and Garmin will be along for the ride. This includes Sean using the Edge 1000 and vívosmart to help him track his routes around the country and stay on the right path as he makes his way to his final destination, New York City.

Sean will be biking 5,000 miles to raise awareness for stoke prevention. Sean has recruited friends and tech executives alike to ride out of Palo Alto, California with him tomorrow on March 22, 2015 to start his Heart Across America journey.

The main focus of the trip is to get people talking about health, heart disease and stroke and to raise life-saving funds for the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.  He wants to also show the benefits of ultrasound neck scans in diagnosing possible strokes. Sean and his staff will set up opportunities for the public to receive ultrasounds and provide information of how to request one as well.

Sean will even offer ultrasound scans for free and provide flyers for the public on how to request ultrasounds from their doctors.

Along the way, Sean will stop in several major cities including: San Diego, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Nashville, Chicago and Pittsburgh. Throughout the tour, people can learn about health, wellness and other products that support an active lifestyle.

The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association are both sponsors of the event. You can see Sean’s blog posts from his journey and find out more information at: heartacrossamerica.org.

Join us in wishing Sean the best of luck in his journey across the country on his bike!  Throughout his ride, Heart across America will be using the hashtag #Bike4Heart during his coast-to-coast ride.
