Flying with Garmin Pilot Series, Part 5: Downloads
Last week we highlighted how simple it is to organize and maintain Instrument Approach Procedures (IAPs) and many other charts within Garmin Pilot. This week we’re back to demonstrate how easy it is to access your chart downloads to ensure you are flying with the most up-to-date information within Garmin Pilot.
From the home screen within Garmin Pilot, select Downloads to conveniently view all of the charts available within Garmin Pilot. These charts are separated into several categories, including: Navigation & Basemaps, Terrain & Obstacles, Airport Information, VFR / IFR Enroute Charts, SafeTaxi and FliteCharts.
Worldwide Chart Options
Garmin Pilot is a global application and provides pilots around the globe with a variety of chart options. To download a U.S. VFR chart, simply select ‘U.S. VFR Charts’ and select the appropriate region, whether that is CONUS (the continental U.S., Alaska, or Hawaii – or all three!) Selecting CONUS will then take you to a new screen, allowing you to select the appropriate chart(s) within the contiguous 48 states.
When a new cycle of any particular chart or navigation data comes available, Garmin Pilot conveniently notifies you by displaying a red badge on the app icon on your iPad home screen. As an additional reminder, a red badge is also present on ‘Downloads’ icon within the Garmin Pilot home screen.
Stay tuned next week for the final part of our Garmin Pilot blog series where we’ll take to the skies and demonstrate how to leverage a variety of features while navigating in-flight and highlight the unique product integration offered by Garmin Pilot!
