Experienced Triathletes Duel it Out for Prostate Cancer Awareness
A friendly running rivalry never hurt anyone. SheriAnne Nelson and Jeff Kline of USA PRS FIT will help prove that on July 25 when the two duel on treadmills for 12 hours to support prostate cancer awareness. For the race, Jeff will run in Portland, Oregon while SherriAnne will be in Scottsdale, Arizona.
“It’s been a lot of fun. SheriAnne and I are really playing it up. We’ve become good friends over the years,” Jeff said of the competition.
SheriAnne boasted about her chance to win on Facebook, but she has plenty of respect for Jeff too. “He is so tough physically and mentally,” she said. “I thought, what could be more fun than taking him on in a 12 hour treadmill challenge.”
For Jeff, the race is a personal battle, too; he was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year.
Since then he has competed in many long distance races and grabbed support from all over the country. “I started making these races part of my mission to get the word out,” Jeff explained. ”My team has been very supportive of that. It’s really overwhelming.”
To keep track of their training, Jeff and SherriAnne use their Garmin Forerunner 920XT multisport watches.The two have been fans of the running watch since some of the early models. “I’ve been a Garmin user since the Forerunner 305,” Jeff said. “The great thing about this watch is that when I’m done with my workout it just uploads to Garmin Connect.”
Find out more about Sherri Anne and Jeff’s treadmill challenge at their Facebook page. The two are partnering with ZERO, a national nonprofit organization with the mission to end prostate cancer. According to their website, one in seven American men will have prostate cancer during his lifetime.
