A1. No, but some of our dealers do. If you own a Garmin handheld and want to see if you can trade it in for a 496, visit one of the Garmin dealers at EAA Oskosh and ask them if they take trade-ins. You may be surprised on what they say.
A2. Some have been heard saying that the 496 is like a 396 on steroids, and although that’s one way to describe it, it’s really much more than that. The 496 has many features the 396 doesn’t such as Garmin’s SafeTaxi and Smart Airspace, AOPA Airport Directory, faster GPS update rate for maps and indicators, enhanced terrain database, and preloaded automotive maps of North America or Europe. Also, did you know there is a blog site devoted to the GPSMAP 496. The site was made by one of Garmin’s dealers and it does a good job of educating on the GPSMAP 496.
